President of the United States, Donald Trump may sign an executive order to include Nigeria in his infamous visa restrictions list.
According to Politico and the Wall Street Journal, Nigeria is on the new visa ban list along with six other countries which are Belarus, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Sudan and Tanzania.
Donald Trump is expected to announce the list on Monday, January 27, 2020. The list is not final and it might be altered before Monday.
If Nigeria remains on the visa ban list, it means a restriction will be placed on certain visas such as B1/B2 visa type known as the business or visitor visa.
According to The Cable “data released by the department of homeland security, 24% of Eritreans, 15% of Nigerians and 12% of people from Sudan overstayed their visas in 2018.”
Monday, January 27, 2020 will mark the third-year anniversary of the first travel ban. The second and third bans were issued in March 2017 and September 2017 respectively.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has yet to react to the news.
