The National Examination Council, NECO has cleared the air on the controversy trailing the Certificate of the Senator representing Anambra South in the National Assembly, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

The examination body in a letter dated, January 23, 2020, addressed to a non-governmental organisation, Human Rights Writers Association, (HURIWA) sequel to the latter’s request, NECO in a correspondence with particulars, NECO/R/LGS/20/003, disclosed that the chieftain of the Young Peoples Party sat for eight subjects with Credit in 7 and obtained fail in one.

Further clearing the doubt on the authenticity of Senator Ubah’s result, NECO noted that the conventional and obtainable practice among examination bodies was that failed subjects were not recorded in the certificate, although they remain in the examination bodies’ database and continue to appear in both the statement of results and confirmation of results usually sent to educational institutions.

In simple language, examination bodies do not issue certificates for failed subjects.”

The letter addressed to HURIWA read in part: “In all, we state with every sense of duty and responsibility that both the statement of result and the certificate are genuine. They both emanated from the council and correspond with the records in our database.”
