Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu

Following the release of the senator representing Abia North, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu from the facility of Nigeria Correctional Service on Wednesday, Abians in the United States have joined in celebrating the former governor’s release.

Recall that the federal lawmaker since early December has been in prison on allegations bordering on corruption after he was wrongfully convicted by a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The Supreme Court last month upturned the conviction of Kalu, saying the judge who presided over his case lacked jurisdiction over it, having been promoted to the Appeal Court.

The celebration of Kalu’s release in the US on Thursday is the extension of the jubilation that has greeted his freedom in Nigeria.

Sen. Kalu is expected to join his colleagues at the National Assembly where he is representing Abia North.
