Few days after a policeman killed a petrol station attendant in Aba, Abia State, an officer of NSCDC on Wednesday killed a commercial driver around Umuikaa junction in Isialangwa South local government area of the State.

Reacting to the development, the state governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has appealed for calm with a promise to ensure that justice is served the accused person and the victim.

In a release on Wednesday by the State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu made available to ABN TV, the governor while cautioning security agencies in the state to always observe the rule of engagement directed the Commissioner of Police to fish out the perpetrator for immediate persecution.

It was with rude shock that we received the sad news of yet another alleged extra-judicial killing of one of our citizens by an arm bearing security agent at Umuikaa junction, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, and wish to state that we strongly condemn such acts which are now almost becoming a regular occurrence in the State.

“While we appeal to members of the public to remain calm and not take the laws into their hands, we assure them that no effort will be spared in ensuring that justice is done swiftly. We also strongly urge arm bearing security agents in the state to ensure that they fully follow service guidelines regarding the use of firearms at all times as the state government will not spare any effort in ensuring full protection of the right to life of our people.

“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the State Commissioner of Police to immediately apprehend the suspect(s) and fully investigate the circumstances leading to the latest unfortunate incident at Umuikaa junction and ensure that justice is done swiftly.

“We commiserate with the family and friends of the deceased and, once again, call on security agents bearing arms to be responsible and follow relevant service rules regarding the use of firearms” the statement said.
