The Ikwuano local government area of Abia state has expressed dissatisfaction over exclusion from the list of local governments to benefit from the construction of 19 roads across the state.

ABN TV reports that This is even as the local government says it feels marginalised over the exclusion despite being a highly agrarian local government that needs toad facility.

The Lawmaker representing Ikwuano State Constituency, Hon Stanley Nwabuisi who brought this as a Motion on the floor of the Assembly on Monday also stated that the process which produced the list of beneficiaries is not properly clear.

“Whereas on the 23rd of June, 2020, the State Executive Council met and approved the award of 19 road construction projects across the State;

“Whereas the House duly observes that the process and criteria for the specific selection of these road projects from the 2020 Appropriation Law are not clear;

“Whereas Ikwuano LGA was not captured in the award of these road projects leading to mass outrage and condemnation of the Government by the people of Ikwuano because they feel highly marginalized, and

“Whereas Ikwuano LGA is predominantly an agrarian community lacking basic infrastructure especially roads,” he said.

He, therefore, prayed the House to resolve to urge the Executive to include Ikwuano LGA in the ongoing road construction projects by providing funds for the execution of the already awarded projects in Ikwuano LGA.

He also appealed to the Assembly to invite the Commissioners for Work, and Finance, to come and brief the House on how they intend to fund the projects in this COVID-19 period.

The House resolved to Invite the Commission For work at a Future Legislative Day to offer explanations on why Ikwuano was not captured.
